In Utero Sales

We sell the majority of our foals in utero and in fact, it is our preferred way to sell. We absolutely love sharing in this very special journey with the buyer and cherish each relationship that is built. You’ll become part of our Finest Hour Farms family!

We make it as absolutely easy as possible:

  • Our in utero foals are available to be reserved for a $1,000 deposit

  • The final sale is executed after the foal is born and passes his/her initial foal wellness exam

  • We offer flexible payment plans

  • Board until weaning is included

“Best experience ever!! It was so much fun to be along for the entire journey, and to have a connection with my baby mama before Bowie was even born. And being a part of the FHF family is a huge bonus.” - Katie Dobrowolski

“When I chose to work with Finest Hour Farms and Stefanie Erlwein, I hit the jackpot. The love and dedication that is given to this breeding program is incredible. Stefanie goes above and beyond to make sure that every horse gets nothing but the best. I couldn’t be more pleased with this little filly I bought in utero- Fully Automatic FHF (Nova). My dream has come true!” - Carol Dunn

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Am I updated throughout the pregnancy?

Yes! We love to keep in touch throughout the pregnancy and will frequently send you pictures of your foal’s dam out in pasture, showcasing her baby bump. Pictures of any ultrasound images are sent as well.

  2. Am I able to find out the gender of my foal?

Depending on when the foal is purchased. There are a few times during pregnancy in which the foal is positioned in such a way that we can have a Theriogenologist (a veterinarian that specializes in equine reproduction) come out to the farm to fetal sex your foal.

  3. Will I be notified as soon as my foal is born?

We stay in very close communication with the foaling farm and are generally able to accurately predict when the foaling will occur. We will keep you in the loop, so you are prepared for the foal’s arrival and will notify you as soon as we have word that your foal has arrived.

  4. How soon after birth can I meet my foal?

As soon as you can get there!

  5. Who is responsible for medical bills for the foal prior to the execution of the Final Bill of Sale?

We are. We pay for all medical bills related to the foaling and any post-foaling care that the foal requires. You will not assume medical expenses until after the foal passes his/her foal wellness exam and the Final Bill of Sale is executed.

  6. If the mare looses the pregnancy, am I refunded my deposit?

Yes. If the mare sadly looses the pregnancy, you have the option to be refunded your full deposit, or you can apply it to another available in utero.

  7. What happens to my deposit if I change my mind at some point prior to the execution of the Final Bill of Sale and decide not to purchase the foal?

The deposit is forfeited. With that said, we understand things happen. If the foal can be sold in a timely manner for the same price, we will refund your deposit after the final payment for the foal is received from the new buyer.
